It works well for me. Only I had to reboot after change the blacklist.conf file and again after the dracut command. After this the instalation of the driver was OK. And the my X Windows works the best. Before this the screen jumped every time. I have a MSI boad whit GeForce 6150.
Your procedure worked great for my install onto CentOS 6.3, but after installation i only see a black screen that people have had problems with it. Did you encounter that error and do you have any suggestions?
I had the sameproblem, I edited start parameters, when grub want to boot a kernel choose e to edit add rdblacklist=nouveau then Esc, and "b" to boot this kernel with modified parameters. Later just disable it for good, that should do it
Nope, it worked fine for me. I suggest posting this question to CentOS or NVIDIA forum.
I had a devil of a time installing it today but was able to using the El Repo repository:
sudo
yum --enablerepo elrepo-testing install kmod-nvidiasudo yum
--disablerepo=\* --enablerepo=elrepo-testing install
nvidia-x11-drv-32bit
What about all of this kernel-devel, kernel-headers and not being able to find version.h... I'm 8 hrs into this...
Right, I had to install new drivers on 64-bit CentOS 6.2 yesterday. I did yum install kernel-devel and then run ./NVIDIA-Linux-version.run with --kernel-source-path=/usr/src/kernels/linux-version. This worked for me and I can update this page with more info if anyone is interested. Good luck!
I am trying to install Nvidia graphics driver on CentOS 6.4. My machine is an Intel Macbook 2009 with Nvidia GeForce 320m card. My problem is that after disabling Nouveau (I did it using rdblacklist=Nouveau) the display gets distorted, I can see just dispersed colored dots instead of display. Nevertheless I somehow managed to install the driver by putting in the correct sequence of commands, but now the xorg is not starting up, it just hangs with black screen. It will be helpful if anyone can suggest me on this!
Hi Sargis,
thank you very much for this excellent tutorial! Following it I was able to install the driver for an nvidia geforce GT 650M on centOS 6.4. Only, when booting, my machine was stuck at the centOS welcome screen. After hours and hours of trial and error, I finally found a solution that worked for me:
I'm a complete Linux newbie, so I couldn't probably tell why it worked, but following these instructions solved my problem:
http://elrepo.org/tiki/tiki-in...
Maybe it could help somebody else, too.
Thanks again for this tutorial, without it I'd be running fedora now, and not centOS :)
Hi Gert,
You are very welcome. Glad to see this tutorial is helpful and thank you for your comment.
I've followed your instructions, which appear to work absolutely fine - encountered errors were sidestepped, and the driver installed absolutely fine. I allowed the Nvidia driver install utility to make changes it prompted.
However, when booting the system now, the boot sequence stops at: "lo: Disabled Privacy Extensions". No errors or information displayed aside from green OKs before it...
Any ideas?
